Why do Waffle Makers Flip (Simply Explained)

Sunday morning, sunny, what would make it better? A nice warm waffle in the comfort of your own home. You get the waffle maker out and wonder; why does it flip? Today, I’m going to shed some light on this for you.

Waffle makers flip so that both sides of the waffle get evenly cooked. If they didn’t flip, the mixture would stick to one side and cook unevenly. You can, however, get waffle makers that do not flip but the results are not as good; these are called Waffle Irons.

If you’d like to learn a bit more about why this is, continue reading.

Even batter spread

Flipping a waffle maker allows the batter to spread more evenly and thus cook better, this way you get a waffle that is fully cooked through on both sides and doesn’t have any holes/gaps.

Aesthetics

A waffle maker that flips creates much better-looking waffles since they have even colour and texture. This is important in the commercial sector or just if you like to impress guests!

Do I need one that flips?

You may be thinking, do I need a more expensive one that flips or could I just get a cheap one that does the job? The answer to this question all depends on how much of a perfectionist you are. I personally have one that flips and makes the perfect waffle and they’re not too much more expensive, I definitely think its worth the extra money.

Waffle Maker vs Waffle Iron

Waffle makers tend to flip, whereas waffle irons don’t. Irons tend to be cheaper, and quicker but do not produce the same quality.

The best waffle maker that flips

My personal favourite waffle maker that flips is the Quest Belgian Waffle Maker – its great value and super easy to use.
